Easter Weekend 2025
Easter Weekend 2025
Tomorrow is Easter Sunday 2025. Easter has come late this year and many colleges and universities will be holding graduation ceremonies in less than a month. Virginia Tech, my alma mater, will graduate 5,000 new fellow Hokies Nation alumni members next month, many of whom will be exploring their graduate school options. As the stock market slips further into bear-market territory, and Washington D.C. gets closer to shutting down because of budget problems, more and more people will be exploring his/her online college options.
Firstly, a college graduate with a four-year bachelors degree earns, on average, twice that of someone who has only a high-school diploma. Secondly, many professions require some college, or even specific college diplomas, to meet the academic requirements of practicing in that respective profession. For example; teachers, financial advisors, stock traders, lawyers, military officers, healthcare providers, and even some auto-mechanic certifications all require some college or specific college diplomas. Thirdly, as the economy worsens and the labor market gets tougher for job seekers, people need to keep their skills relevant and their resume competitive with online degrees or online certifications.
I paid a total $50,000 for my dual-degrees in B.S. Business Economics and B.A. Philosophy program at Virginia Tech 25 years ago. Today, the only place you can get a comparable 4-year bachelors degree for $50,000 is at online college. Online college degree programs have stopped the massive tuition inflation of the past 25 years seen at most college campuses. By comparison, a 4-year bachelor degree at an on-campus private college will have a total cost of $150,000.
The online college savings is even more dramatic when you consider online graduate degree programs, as many recent college graduates probably will. An on-campus graduate degree program can easily cost $40,000 per year. At the same time, an online graduate degree program costs around $20,000 per year. The typical Ph.D. doctorate degree program is 4 or 5 years. I am currently waiting to hear about grants or scholarships to do an online graduate degree program in Philosophy or Religion, or an employer with a tuition reimbursement program for business, economics, computer science, or law.
I am a Christian Baptist. I will be celebrating Easter 2025 tomorrow. I am currently doing research on how technology, particularly Windows PC’s and the Internet, can help facilitate Interfaith Dialogue between the different Christian Denominations and other Faith Traditions. It is in conjunction with my continued research on Apocalyptic Studies and the Tyranny of Qualified Immunity.
To conclude, I hope and pray everyone has a fun, safe, and joyous Easter 2025 Holiday. Good luck to all those who will be studying for final exams over the next few weeks. I look forward to welcoming the 5,000 new Virginia Tech alumni to Hokie Nation.
